Lash Trainer and Lash Technician on an eyelash course for lashes

What Do You Need To Do To Become A Lash Trainer?

It’s very common for Lash Technicians to move into teaching as their career progresses. The eyelash extensions industry is built on community and education, so it’s no surprise that many professionals go on to become successful Lash Trainers. Qualifications from eyelash extension courses open many doors, and applying lash extensions is only part of the journey. From classic lash extensions and hybrid lashes to volume lashes and Russian volume lashes, experience is key. So how do you become a Lash Trainer in the UK?

Do You Need To Be Qualified Lash Tech To Be A Lash Trainer?

Yes. While this wasn’t always the case, today it’s essential to be a qualified Lash Technician. This is why researching the right eyelash extension course or lash extension course is so important.

Being trained in eyelash extensions is one thing, but working professionally as a Lash Tech gives you real insight into daily challenges. Whether you specialise in classic lashes, hybrid eyelash extensions, Russian lashes, cluster lashes, or individual eyelash extensions, hands-on experience allows you to confidently guide your students.

You’ll also need a teaching qualification. A PTLLS course (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) is required and is relatively quick to complete. It prepares you to deliver professional lash courses and eyelash extension courses effectively.

With a teaching qualification, you can gain accreditation for your lash courses, allowing you to offer certified eyelash extension courses. This enables students to work as insured Lash Technicians offering classic eyelash extensions, hybrid lash extensions, volume lashes, and Russian eyelash extensions.

    Lash Course Training Materials

Once qualified, you’ll need training materials for your eyelash extension courses. This includes a training manual and supporting resources such as lash mapping guides, aftercare advice for lash extensions, and client record cards. These materials must be professionally prepared and approved by your accreditation body.

Your manual should cover theory and practical skills, including styling, hygiene, and lash products, to ensure your lash course is approved and delivers real value to students.

    Building Your Lash Extension Kit

Providing a full lash extension kit isn’t mandatory, but product recommendations are essential. A professional kit may include eyelash glue, lash glue, eyelash extension glue, lash tweezers, eyelash tweezers, under eye patches, micropore tape, eyelid tape, jade stone, lash shampoo, eyelash shampoo, lash cleanser, eyelash primer, eyelash brush, and lash serum. Accessories such as a lash pillow, mannequin head, airtight container for storage, and a hygrometer are also valuable.

If you trust a brand like London Lash, recommend their lash products and explain why they’re effective for professional eyelash extensions.

Did You Know: London Lash offers a Training Academy Scheme with ready-made lash extension kits, ensuring students start with high-quality lash products, plus exclusive discounts for both trainers and students.

That’s the process in a nutshell. It’s recommended to work as a qualified Lash Tech for at least two years before becoming a trainer and to continue taking advanced lash courses. Strong experience across classic lashes, hybrid lashes, volume lashes, and Russian lash extensions will make you more appealing to students.

Being a Lash Trainer is incredibly rewarding. You’ll mentor future Lash Technicians, build lasting relationships, and shape careers within the lash industry—so if you’re considering it, take the leap.
